Acute Care Medical Services, Inc. was established by Dr. Robert Sussman on October 1, 1988 for the recruitment of physicians for temporary fill in positions throughout the Hawaiian Islands. During the company’s first few years it has obtained several contracts with the State of Hawaii, City and County of Honolulu, as well providing physicians and nurses for American Hawaii Cruises.

In 1995 the opportunity for expansion and permanent physician employment presented itself with the purchase of the Kailua Family & Urgent Care Clinic. This well known clinic is a landmark in the heart of Kailua town and began a new direction for Acute Care Medical Services - this time into direct patient care through a clinic environment.

The clinic was renamed THE MEDICAL CORNER to help remind patients of its location and expanded its hours of operation to 8:00 am to 8:00 pm 7 days a week to better serve the community and its existing customers. The clinic was soon more than just a convenient alternative to the Emergency Room. Family Practice as well as Urgent Care patients continued to tell friends and neighbors about the clinic on the corner in Kailua. Dr Sussman very quickly realized his goal of medical access for everyone for anything!

Dr Sussman continued to provide care and guidance to Hawaii’s corporate community and helped Hawaii’s employers save money in a multitude of ways. Dr Sussman soon became known as “The Company Doctor? for employers such as United Airlines, the U.S. Postal Service, Frito Lay, and the Queen’s Medical Center. The Medical Corner quickly grew into one of the largest occupational medicine providers in Hawaii. The Medical Corner continues to offer its corporate clients the convenience of on site services, including health fairs, flu shots, cholesterol and diabetes screenings as well as drug tests.

In keeping with the progressive nature of Acute Care Medical Services - Dr. Sussman purchased a state of the art practice management system that is now the heart of the business. This practice management system expanded Acute Care Medical Services even further by offering to other physicians in the community services such as office management, billing and computer time sharing. The Medical Corner remains at the cutting edge of technology with it’s virtual office and online internet based practice powered by Healthweb1 Hawaii’s premier online physician referral service.

A strong marketing of the clinics combined with an excellent word of mouth reputation have allowed the number of clinics o grow to 4 clinics on Oahu with plans to soon expand to neighbor islands. As the word of the clinic and it’s services grew so did it’s patient base and the need to expand making The Medical Comer' more accessible to new communities and businesses.

The Medical Corner “Flu Crew? are easily recognized during flu shot season each fall starting with the Senior’s Fair at The Blaisdell Center and on location at every Times and Daiei Supermarket with lots of painless immunizations and free flu shots for Medicare beneficiaries.

Recently The Medical Corner has been providing affordable Healthcare for Hawaii’s uninsured with office visits as low as $40
